| Gongshang Primary School |
Gongshang Primary made a clean sweep in the Schoolbeans National Online Quiz and Crossword Challenge - National Day/Olympics Special Edition, winning 3 of the 7 prizes at stake in the primary section, including the Grand Prize in the Crossword Challenge which was won by Neha Gandhi of Primary 6.9 .
The school also submitted the most number of correct entries for the Online Contests, repeating their previous performance in the Schoolbeans National Online Quiz - Lunar New Year/Pongal Special Edition that ended on 30 January 2004. Mrs Daisie Yip, attributes this strong showing to the school's dynamic IT department.
Gongshang Primary School was founded in 1920 by Mr. Shi Su and was originally known as “The Chinese Industrial and Commercial Continuation School”. It had humble beginnings at 267 Tanjong Pagar Road as a night school. It catered to the needs of young migrants from China. Since the tumultuous days of its founding, Gongshang Primary School has seen better days. It had moved from Enggor Street and York Hill in Outram Road to its present campus in Tampines. Today, Gongshang is a school that continues with the rich traditions of its history, emphasizing a strong Asian tradition and culture. At the same time, the school is moving on with a focus on innovation and creativity. The school aspires to work closely with its partners, in particular the parents, to take the school into another phase of excellence, providing to all who pass through its gates a total education for life.
The school’s Principal, Mrs Daisie Yip has this to say, “The school strives to create an environment that will excite our pupils to be adventurous in their learning. We believe that every child is curious about learning and we want to enhance this so that our pupils will have the cutting edge to succeed in the chaos of change in the twenty-first century. We firmly believe that we need to equip our pupils with the skills to pre-empt changes and solve problems creatively. The school catches opportunities like the National Online Quiz to apply what the pupils have learnt, hence making their learning meaningful.”
